When you are running low on disk space, you should not limit yourself to using a cleanup utility. Besides erasing junk data, it may be a good idea to reorganize your files. A standard explorer window is sufficient to move your files, but third party applications can provide you with more features and make your work easier. DISKKeeper is a good alternative to Windows Explorer. It offers the same kind of functionality, as well as various filtering and sorting options.

DISKKeeper works on all Windows platforms, from Win 98 to Win 7. Due to its modest system requirements, you can run the application on any modern day computer, as well as obsolete machines. The setup kit weighs in at 1.30 MB and the installation procedure takes only a few moments.

The user interface looks and feels just like an explorer window. You can navigate through your folders the same way and perform different actions on selected files, like copying, moving or deleting, with options from a context menu. Although it does not support clicking and dragging, DISKKeeper still provides an easy way to copy or move your files. When you right click a file or a selection, you can navigate through a series of sub-menus to select one of many destinations, like recent or favorite folders, your desktop or to browse for a specific folder.

A clear advantage over Windows Explorer is DISKKeeper's filtering capabilities. It can show only files with an extension of your choosing or exclude them, files that are larger or smaller than a specific value or between certain values. Other filters will display files that are created, modified or accessed between certain dates. Sub-folders are not displayed among files, but one of the available options will reveal all items, from a selected folder and its sub-folders. When a folder is selected, you may export a list of its contents in HTML or CSV format or export a directory structure as a plain text file.

Pros

DISKKeeper provides a familiar interface, as well as certain advantages over Windows Explorer. It includes various filtering options and you may combine them. The software lets you compile a list of favorite folders, so you can access them instantly.

Cons

The possibility of clicking and dragging files would make DISKKeeper more comfortable. Besides that, the software does not come with a search function. DISKKeeper's simplicity and efficiency allow you to organize your files much faster and easier.
